Industry Symposia – Gilead
Beyond PBC Biomarkers: Outcomes That Matter
Wednesday 24th June 16:05 - 16:25
**This is a promotional symposium, organised and funded by Gilead Sciences, for HCPs and ORDMs in the UK only. Gilead products may be discussed**
This 20‑minute silent symposium focuses on advancing a symptom‑first, personalised approach to the management of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), aligning clinical decision‑making with outcomes that matter to patients. Robert Mitchell-Thain, CEO of The PBC Foundation, opens the symposium by reframing treatment success beyond biochemical markers, highlighting quality of life, fatigue and pruritus as meaningful and persistent burdens even in patients with apparent biochemical control.
Dr Yiannis Kallis Consultant Hepatologist, Barts Health NHS Trust, translates this perspective into UK clinical practice, exploring precision medicine approaches for patients with an inadequate response to UDCA. He will outline practical use of UK‑licensed second‑line therapies, including the real‑world positioning of PPAR agonists, and consider how disease stage, symptom burden and individual risk profiles should inform treatment selection.
The symposium concludes by recommending a personalised, treat‑to‑target strategy that integrates a patient-first approach to optimise long‑term outcomes for people living with PBC.
