This symposium re-examines IBS within DGBI, focusing on gut permeability alongside gut–brain signalling, microbiome imbalance, and motility disorders. It will briefly cover IBS subtypes and mechanisms, review current pharmacological, dietary, and lifestyle management, and introduce emerging therapies, including xyloglucan + pea protein. Emphasis will be placed on patient-centred care, highlighting how treatment can be tailored to subtype, symptom severity, and individual preferences.
